We arrived in Las Palmas Gran Canaria on the 28th at 16.10hrs it took us 27hrs to sail from Arrecife. We had a great sail down the Lanzarote coast romping along at good 6 knots, but as we beared right to go between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote life began to be very rolly and uncomfortable. This is because when you go between 2 islands there are acceleration zones where the wind picks up .We were ready for this though and had already reefed. Other than sea sickness the night was pretty uneventful (This is a good thing by the way 😏) However on saying this on my watch at around 4 in the morning I did hear what sounded like a spurting noise coming from just outside the boat. I sat frozen for a milli second praying that I had not just heard a whale! I turned all nav lights off so as not rto unin my night vision but once in the cockpit I scoured all around the boat but could not see anything thankfully! Now I know I've been wishing to see a whale, but at 4am in the dark next to our boat is not what I want lol "note to self I must be careful what I wish for in future" 😉 The next day was a little less rolly but seemed to take forever, eventual I spotted land albeit we still had about 4 hrs to go. being 3 hrs away really is quite frustrating! That feeling of " yet so near but yet so far" does spring to mind 😕 But luckily for us the dolphins decided to come and play around the boat and entertain us for an hour. This just never gets old and we're like a couple of kids marveling at such dexterity and beauty. Also in the distance we spotted some huge water spouts which we were pretty sure must have come from a whale but we were too far to actually spot it. We have been anchored in the bay at Las Palmas now 4 days. We caught up with our friends off S/V Cassie and had a lovely afternoon catching up and a bit of a slap up lunch too! (I can now say I have had truffels) We met their new crew member, "Frida" a sweet little 4 month old kitten she's so cute! 😻 We are not able to get off the boat today as it is very windy with quite a swell. We are glad we didn't as we witnessed a couple of boats that had their anchors and chain wrapped around each other, causing us and other surrounding boats to hang over the boat with fenders at the ready. One boat managed to ram the other one broadside on due to what appeared to be a lack of helming skills by a junior crew member. We were subsequently approached to act as potential witnesses as the offending skipper immediately denied liability. So with that, you are well an truly caught up on our adventures so far 😊.
